Nominations for women across the N8 universities – Durham, Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and York – and research projects were sourced from our university communications contacts. We received a number of nominations from each highlighting female professors and doctors thriving in their field.
Our campaign piggybacked on the popularity of the annual International Women’s Day event, by using the #IWD2019 and #BalanceForBetter hashtags within our messaging, alongside our campaign hashtag, #N8Women.
During the campaign period, we increased our Twitter impressions by 552% and by 238% on LinkedIn. Using a roundup blog with a summary from N8 Director Dr Annette Bramley as a click-through, we managed to increase our social traffic to the N8 website by 138%.
Dr Bramley said of the campaign: “It was a fantastic way to share and celebrate the excellent work and insight from colleagues from across our partner universities. The enthusiasm it generated on social media has created greater interest in the N8, our work and ambition. The awareness and engagement that this campaign has been able to attract will help us realise our vision to be an exceptionally effective cluster of research, innovation and training excellence that delivers benefits for the Northern Powerhouse and beyond.”
