Months of planning by Influential’s B2C team went in to ensuring maximum coverage for our client in the build-up to and during the big celebrations.
The team invited Good Morning Britain to present the weather from the top of The Blackpool Tower. GMB presenter, Laura Tobin rose to the challenge and also scaled the exterior of the tower to clean the windows while presenting the news. This resulted in six live broadcasts from the tower to a television audience of an estimated 1 million.
This stunt ignited more press coverage for the team and The Blackpool Tower was a trending topic on Twitter.
Media attendees on the big day included ITV National News, Channel 5 News as well as BBC North West Tonight and ITV Granada with coverage also on BBC Radio Four, The Telegraph, Daily Mirror, MailOnline and the Daily Express among others.
In total, there were over 300 pieces of coverage generated as well as over 400 mentions of The Blackpool Tower across radio and television. News of The Blackpool Tower’s birthday also made it overseas with coverage achieved internationally.
Jane Woodhead, PR Director at Influential, said: “It was an absolute honour to be involved with such a momentous day for a national landmark. It definitely ranks as one of my career highlights, being able to look back in the future and say I was there.
“The sheer level of coverage achieved is testament to the hard work of my team over the last six months. I couldn’t be happier with the result.”
Louise Forder, senior marketing manager at Merlin Entertainments Blackpool Cluster, said: “We were delighted with the level of exposure achieved leading up to the birthday and on the big day itself. The Influential team really did excel themselves, delivering outstanding coverage across all channels.
“The results speak for themselves, everyone was talking about The Blackpool Tower. It was the perfect start to an exciting year for us.”
