Brief

With the Government challenging universities to deliver regional business growth and innovation, it was time for us to raise the profile of the N8 brand and its inspiring accomplishments.

Challenge

As a collaboration of the eight most research-intensive Universities in the North of England (Durham, Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, and York), there was no doubt great work to shout about.

But how could we simplify and distil it down to one engaging campaign?

We devised a series of social media campaigns that reinforced N8’s priorities and highlighted the impact of the partnership’s research activities. Along with the prosperity of their efforts across their respective regions.

Campaigns included: #N8PostDocs, #N8NewPioneers, Women in Science, #N8Women and North Innovation Women.

For maximum engagement, we harnessed the online reach of the universities digital channels and set up social media collaborations with other influential Northern organisations. These included the Cabinet Office comms team, and the NHSA (Northern Health Science Alliance).

We also leveraged the popularity of significant national dates and other piggybacked onto conversations around #NPAW, #IWD2019 and #WomenInScience.

Results

There were First Class results all around with a 227% increase in social media impressions, year on year from January 2020. As well as an 893% increase in social media engagements.

People are now more aware of the work The N* Research Partnership does. This has helped them now be in regular dialogue with the government and are often referenced by ministers as an A* example of collaborative working.

All in all, results the Government and client couldn’t argue with.
